About

Gonzalo H. Rodríguez is a media artist, filmmaker, and researcher. He was born in Lima, Peru and is now based in Berlin, Germany.

In his films, installations, performances, musical experiments, and visual stages, Rodríguez explores narrative forms that determine the perception of subjective and objective narration and thus also reflect on the relationship between reality and fiction. He plays with various forms of narrativisation as processes that are inherent to the artistic media practice. In his research, he deals with various subjects against the backdrop of artistic figuration, radical fiction, and the possibilities of technology to mediate multiplicity.

Rodríguez studied fine arts at the Universidad Católica and design at the Community College of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. In Germany, he completed his master studies at the Academy of Media Arts of Cologne in audiovisual media and media art. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in artistic research at the Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg.

Rodríguez has worked as a lecturer at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and as a live video expert at Cologne’s City Theater. He works currently as a picture editor for the German international news service Deutsche Welle and as a lecturer at the Weissensee Academy of Art Berlin. He is a former member of the film collective Sapo inc, the performative ensemble FREIraum, and the International artistic research collective Szikago Pakrel. Rodríguez’s artwork has been presented in several screenings, art venues, and performances such as CalArts, Kunstmuseum Bonn, 104 Paris, KW Berlin, PACT-Zollverein, and awarded at festivals such as the Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen and the Videonale.
