About

Working from different individual, collaborative and collective platforms Rodríguez’s time-based media pieces, installations, and performances are continuously searching for narrative forms that move along the possibilities of reality against the background of radical fiction as tools for thinking about subjectivity, history, and social structures. Currently, he is working on an artistic research project dealing with the speculative story of a precarious city called Villa Futuro.

He started working on video, design, and performance in Ecuador under the video collective Sapo inc. while studying fine arts and communication design at the Universidad Católica and the Community College of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. In Germany, he completed a MA at the Academy of Media Arts of Cologne in audiovisual media and media art. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in artistic research at the Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg.

Rodríguez has worked as a lecturer at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, as a live-video expert at Cologne’s City Theater, and as a picture editor for the German international news service Deutsche Welle. He was a founder member of the performative ensemble FREIraum and is currently part of the music duo Ladyboi and the International artists collective Szikago Pakrel. Rodríguez’s artwork has been presented in several screenings, art venues, and performances such as CalArts, Kunstmuseum Bonn, 104 Paris, KW Berlin, PACT-Zollverein, and awarded at festivals such as the Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen and the Videonale.
