Gonzalo H. Rodríguez is a media artist, filmmaker, and researcher. He was born in Lima, Peru, and is now based in Berlin, Germany.
In his films, installations, performances, musical experiments, and visual stages, Rodríguez explores narrative forms that determine the perception of subjective and objective narration and thus also reflect on the relationship between reality and fiction. He uses various forms of narrativisation as processes inherent to the artistic media practice. In his research, he deals with various subjects against the backdrop of artistic figuration, radical fiction, and the possibilities of technology to mediate multiplicity.
Rodríguez studied fine arts at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador and design at the Community College of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. In Germany, he completed his master’s studies in audiovisual media and media art at the Academy of Media Arts of Cologne is currently pursuing a scientific and artistic Ph.D. at the Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg in Potsdam.
Rodríguez has worked as a live video expert at Cologne’s City Theater and as a lecturer at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and the Weissensee Academy of Art and Design of Berlin. Currently, he works as an image producer at the German international news service Deutsche Welle in Bonn and Berlin and as a lecturer in the Department of Artistic Education and New Media at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Bochum.
Rodríguez is also a former member of the film collective Sapo inc, the performative ensemble FREIraum, and the international artistic research collective Szikago Pakrel. His artwork has been presented in several screenings, art venues, and performances such as CalArts, Kunstmuseum Bonn, 104 Paris, KW Berlin, PACT-Zollverein, and awarded at festivals such as the Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen and the Videonale.
